Telephone Triage Appointments

We have a new system in place were patients can book for a telephone triage appointment. This means that the receptionist will take your details inc your telephone number or the number you will like to be called back on so that the Doctor will give you a call and assess your health status. Once the Doctor has assessed you if need be bring you in later in the day to offer you a face to face consultation.

Appointments can be booked by telephoning the practice on 0333 332 2221, by internet or by personal attendances. We aim to offer appointments within 48 hours for non-urgent matters. Emergencies are seen on the same day. Appointments are offered with either a particular doctor or the nurse and while the practice will try to accommodate patient preferences where possible, this is subject to availability of appointments.

Appointments can be booked from 8.00am on the same day on which an appointment is required.

Emergency appointments are allocated at the end of each doctors afternoon sessions where patients can be seen for a single urgent problem. These appointments are 10 minutes and are made at the discretion of the doctor.

Emergency calls

During the daytime, please telephone the practice and your message will be relayed to the doctor.

The Out of Hours service, i.e. evenings and weekends, you can call 111. This service is for urgent medical problems arising out of normal surgery hours and for emergency consultation only.

Please think before you call. Please help the doctors and other patients by being considerate.

Clinics and service provision

Acupuncture

Dr Shah is a trained medical acupuncturist and a member of The British Medical Acupuncture Society. Acupuncture treatment is beneficial for a number of painful conditions such as chronic neck and back pain, painful joints, migraine and painful periods. Acupuncture has the benefit of avoiding the side effects associated with a number of medications used for such chronic conditions. This is a non NHS service.

Cervical smears

All women aged between 25 and 64 are routinely invited for the cervical screening examinations (smears) every 3-5 years, depending on age. Regular cervical screening is the best way to detect early changes in the cells in the cervix (neck of the womb). Early detection and treatment can prevent cancer developing in around 80 to 90% of cases.

Child Health Surveillance

This is a national screening check carried out by the doctor and is recommended to all new born babies between 6 to 8 weeks. This assessment allows you to discuss concerns about your baby’s growth and development. It is usually combined with the first child immunisations which are administered at the same time.

Diagnostics

These include blood and urine tests, X-rays, scans and cardiac investigations.

Influenza (flu) vaccinations

Flu vaccines are recommended for all patients suffering from heart and chest conditions, diabetes, those over the age of 65 years and others in the ‘at risk’ category. The vaccination programme starts in October each year and early vaccination offers maximum benefit.

Immunisations

Childhood immunisation is a vital aspect of prevention against a number of serious infective illnesses. We provide the full range of recommended childhood immunisation. Please also ensure that we have the full immunisation history of your child to allow us to advise you on the immunisation programmes. We provide tetanus, polio and other immunisations for adults as they also require protection against these serious infections. For those in certain occupations e.g. health care workers, those serving in the police or fire services, working in care homes, etc, Hepatitis B vaccination is highly recommended.

Medical reports:

Specialist reports and examinations for insurance, employment, immigration and emigration purposes are offered as a non NHS service.

Minor surgery:

The practice provides a cryocautery service for warts, verrucaes and small lumps. In addition, we provide excisions of lumps such as cysts, lipomas and skin lesions including moles. Joint injections for a variety of painful conditions are also undertaken.

Private GP services:

We are aware that many patients may not be eligible for NHS services or may wish to consult a GP outside the NHS. We provide the full range of primary care services, diagnostics and referral for specialist opinions. This non NHS service does not apply to patients registered at the Grove Medical Centre under the NHS.

Pneumococcal vaccination

This vaccination is recommended to all those in the same at risk category as the flu vaccination. This is usually recommended once in the lifetime. Please ask for further information.

NHS General Practice services are extremely busy as coronavirus infection rates continue to rise; however, we will continue to help you receive urgent and non-urgent medical care when you need it.

Most consultations are over the phone or via video link. This is to keep everyone safe, and most patients have found this to be very convenient.
Following the initial telephone or video consultation, if a face-to-face consultation is felt to be necessary, this will be arranged without delay.
You can also contact 111, day or night, for other urgent health advice – including concerns about Covid-19 symptoms.
Please remember that 999 and A&E are for emergencies only.
The practice offers extended hours GP service during the evenings and weekends.
Please help reduce infections, protect the NHS and keep each other safe by following the latest rules:
